A Hat Full Of Stars
2006-01-22 || 1:33 a.m.

a week ago and we were moaning at how tired we all were.

the late nights the school closing before us and our parents honking at us to get our asses into the cars.

a week later we stood before the entire auditorium of people. people who paid twelve dollars to watch a dance troupe they never really got to know, to understand. they paid to see what we, the modern dancers, could do.

pressed for time, all of us were weary to the bones. after a series of warmups, everyone entered the changing room in tears, with minutes left to the show. with minutes left to prepare for what we want to present, to give to the audience outside, behind the huge red curtains.

the music played, the video rolled on. every second, we held our breaths, holding every part close to our hearts. this is a show to be remembered for life, this is the inaugural dance concert of NYMD. this is the first time we can show the world what we are made of, after the tumultous times we had for the past year.

somehow, in a flash, we were at the verge of the show. it was ending. our cheerful faces held up, determined to give our audience the last and final burst of energy.

costume changes, frantic people running to and fro, finding a lost shoe, touching up ruined make up. but in front of the crowd, infront of the 500+ strong audience. we were the glamorous modern dancers.

Now. A Hat Full Of Stars is a memory. never again, would there be an exact replica of the show. the experience the anxiety the everything would be different.

our inaugural dance concert ended its last note tonight. now we stand with a successful concert to our name, but what we earned was much more than the applause and the flowers. we earned the experience that now lay etched deep within us, we earned the fond memories of dancing together, working hard as one nymd. we earned the extra confidence, which was touched on our faces, and every other person who was there with us, watching the fruit of our work.

mixed feelings: sad that it has ended, blissed for what it has given us.

looking at it from a fresh perspective, A Hat Full Of Stars was just the end of a new beginning. the rollercoaster ride since syf has reached its highest peak last night. but from there, we'll touch the heavens.

lets do this together, nymd. we shone our brightest for we are part of A Hat Full Of Stars.

i was folding up your letters
and packing winter clothes
searching for my hat i thought i left it by the door
so i tore around the room like a bird without a head
i saw your picture waving back at me from underneath the bed
and a long long time ago
when all i had was a hat full of stars
the one i always treasured
the one that you loved
you loved the look but you never looked inside
you would have seen me there
you could have seen far
you should have seen the magic in
My Hat Full Of Stars

brilliant & ridiculous
